The Challenge

PW Gates secured a new logistics contract and needed an empty 103,000 sqft warehouse in Chester converted into a fully operational depot within a fixed time frame. The requirement was clear from the outset: the layout, racking specification, and operational flow had to match their existing depots. Apex racking was specified to maintain consistency across the network, and the project was driven by a deadline to complete Phase One.

A further requirement was the delivery of a clean, dust-free environment to meet the expectations of their end client, adding an additional layer of technical complexity to the programme.

The Solution

A phased installation approach was agreed to ensure progress remained aligned with contractual milestones. The design was developed around an existing VNA floor layout, allowing the new depot to follow a proven operational format already in use across the business. This reduced risk and supported a faster transition into live operation.

The work included the installation of Apex pallet racking alongside industrial walling, pedestrian barriers, protection systems, anti-collapse mesh, and VNA floor wiring amendments. Industrial walling was installed early in the programme to secure the required dust-free environment. Throughout the project, close collaboration with PW Gates ensured the design, programme, and delivery remained aligned with the initial brief.

The Outcome

The completed fit-out delivered approximately 13,000 pallet spaces across the site, with racking installed to a height of around 11.5 metres. Phase One was completed within the deadline, allowing PW Gates to meet the start date of their new logistics contract without delay. The depot now operates in line with the company’s existing sites, providing a consistent layout and reliable VNA operation.

The project delivered a controlled, on-time warehouse fit-out that met strict technical and contractual requirements while supporting the long-term operational needs of PW Gates.
