STS Ltd approached Oakway Storage to support them in improving the storage and access to products at their Leeds warehouse. The warehouse team were implementing some LEAN working practices and needed a range of improved storage solutions to support that. The existing situation meant the warehouse team were block stacking pallets of materials which made for inefficient pick routines and increased the risk of accidents happening.

The Solution
Oakway Storage worked with the team at STS to design both an equipment/rack specification and a layout that not only met their immediate needs but also allowed for their future expansion and growth. We created a robust warehouse optimisation strategy that increases operational efficiency and maximises safety in the facility.
The resulting solution comprised of:
- 4 blocks of Drive in and Drive Through Racking with multiple level heights and lane spacings to hold a variety of pallet sizes and weights of tile backer board
- 163 bays across 5 levels of Adjustable Pallet Racking (APR) – creating flexible space for mixed pallets of consumables and quick access high pick frequency product lines.
The Installation
Delivered on a tight schedule that allowed for the continued use of the warehouse during a busy period, the Oakway Storage installation team supplied and fitted all elements to make the project an instant success.
